Patented handle technology sets this knife apart from all others. Soft Kraton®
rubber is molded around and through a Zytel® frame, forming a one piece handle
that is more durable than a metal knife handle, yet soft and comfortable to grip
and use, even when wet.
Unlike many other factory knives, Gerber® uses pivot pins and fasteners that
are precision machined rather than wire extruded. This makes for a much tougher,
longer lasting knife.
The Gerber® Gator® is now available with a drop point blade made from ATS-34
stainless steel. This is the material of choice for custom makers, and holds an
edge longer than other stainless steels. Its drop point blade, comfortable, easy

The over-molded handle successfully limits blistering. There
is complete separation between the tang and butt cap, so the knife absorbs the
shocks from hammering and prevents the shocks of electricity. Smartly situated
grooves and lashing holes let the LMF II convert to a spear. The low-profile
sheath facilitates movement, limits noise, works for parachuting, and attaches
to a belt or Molle vest. The patented, integrated sharpener means edge
retention in the field.
